Things To Know About Zopiclone Tablets
Zopiclone is a kind of sleeping tablet, which can be taken to treat severe sessions of insomnia. It takes around an hour to show its effects, and doctors usually prescribe it for not more than 2 – 4 weeks. It is so because the body tends to get immunized by the treatment and does not deliver the same effect after the prescribed time. There are chances that the patient can become dependent on it. Zopiclone is also known by the name Zimovane.
The medicine is available both in tablets and in liquid for those who find it difficult to swallow pills. However, it has to be specially ordered by the doctor, and also the medicine as a whole is strictly available only when prescribed.
Why Is Zopiclone Used?
Zopiclone is used to treat insomnia, which is enervating or which is severely distressing for the patient. It is a short-term treatment for difficulties in falling asleep, nocturnal awakening, early awakening, situational or chronic, and insomnia, secondary to psychiatric disturbances. A regular dosage of the medication helps the patient fall asleep faster and prevents them from waking up in the middle of the night. Only an adult over the age of 18 can take a course of these tablets.
Although it is prescribed to treat insomnia, people with some conditions and complications should be barred from using it, such as:
If a patient had an allergic reaction to Zopiclone, or any other medicines for that matter, before.
Someone who has kidney or liver complications.
A person who is suffering from myasthenia gravis, which is a muscle-weakening illness.
If a person has breathing issues and also suffers from sleep apnoea.
When a patient has mental health issues.
If a patient had problems with drug abuse or alcoholism.
If someone is trying to get pregnant or already is pregnant or is breastfeeding.
What Are The Side-effects Of Zopiclone?
Like other medications, Zopiclone has its share of side-effects too. However, not everyone will be affected by these aftereffects. It usually occurs in more than one person among a hundred others.

Some of the severe aftereffects

Hallucinations- Seeing or hearing things that are not part of the reality

How To Take Zopiclone?
The Zopiclone tablets are available in two strength variants:
Doctors usually prescribe a dose of 7.5mg tablets before going to bed, which takes an hour to show their effects. For patients over 65 years or those suffering from kidney and liver issues, a lower dose of 3.75 mg is recommended. Intake of lower doses reduces the risks of various side-effects.
When taking Zopiclone, the patient has to swallow the whole tablet at once and should not crush or chew it. A patient can consume a Zopiclone with or without food.
The Zopiclone is an effective treatment for insomnia, but anything taken more than it is needed will have reactions either immediately or in the long run. It depends on the patient to adhere strictly to the doctor's instructions if they intend to treat their condition the right way. If a patient forgets to take their medicine at the prescribed time, they can start it the next night and should not compensate for the missed one at the same time. And also, if a patient takes more than the recommended dosage, they should consult their doctor immediately.
